With 209 SPAR stores across Central England and North and Mid Wales, Tates Ltd, based in Willenhall in the West Midlands, is the largest independent convenience store operator in the UK and is part of the A F Blakemore group.
The majority of Tates SPAR stores are open between 7am and 11pm, 7 days a week, with some stores operating 24 hours. They provide an extensive range of goods and services to the local communities they operate in.
The stores offer a wide selection of both fresh and chilled food products, including many regional lines sourced from local suppliers to support the local economy. In addition, Tates stores offer a range of services, including Post Office*, PayPoint or PayZone, Lottery*, Cash Back, Cash Machines*, E Top Up and News* making the stores invaluable to local areas.
Almost half of Tates stores offer hot and cold food freshly prepared in store. The products available range from hot and cold sandwiches and baguettes (including our very own Sizzler) to hot chickens, savouries, salads and freshly ground bean to cup coffee*.
Tates continued ability to offer the best products and services at the heart of local communities relies on the people within the business – the employees. In the last financial year, almost 200 jobs were created, with projections to create a further 250 jobs this year.
In total Tates employs 3,700 staff and as a recognised Investors in People Employer, it is always looking for new ways to train, retain and reward its staff’s achievements and offers an extensive staff care package.
As a progressive, modern company, Tates takes its corporate responsibility to local and business communities seriously. All aspects of the business are reviewed to operate in an environmentally friendly way ranging from paperless tills in 100% of stores to energy efficient lighting systems.
Charitable giving is also high on the agenda. Tates nominated charity of the year is the NSPCC and employees throughout the company are working hard to raise money. Fund raising events include sponsored walks, fancy dress days and in store coffee mornings.
